Over the past few weeks, we’ve been enjoying some great food & wine gifts from Christmas. There was a Craigie Street Bistrot gift certificate, a great Conn Valley Vineyards Napa Cab, and some tasty artisanal olive oil.
The fun continued last night when we opened another Christmas bottle, the Storybook Mountain Vineyards 2003 Zinfandel Napa Estate. I had my first taste while finishing up the Steak with Garlic Horseradish Sauce, then continued to enjoy the zin with the steak. So I didn’t get a chance to make notes while drinking the wine, but thought I’d be remiss not to post something about it.
The wine hails from the Mayacamas Range, just outside of Calistoga in Napa County. This tasty zin was a bit lighter than some, nicely balanced, with a bit of spice. A terrific accompaniment for the zesty pan sauce I made for the steak. The bouquet provides wonderful earthy aromas. The fruit flavor seemed to grow more intense as our meal progressed. I definitely recommend giving this a try. BTW, if you want to try the steak recipe, here it is (Blogger is doing funny things to this when I post it earlier):
