This summer, we are working on expanding the healthy snack and lunches for our son as he approaches his 10th birthday. Some of our experiments are still a work in progress–stay tuned–but this Dairy-Free Strawberry Banana Smoothie was an instant hit and needed to be shared.
In addition to the usual challenges of a kids’ palate, B also has a host of food allergies. He can’t eat dairy, nuts, egg or sesame seeds. We’ve certainly found plenty for him to eat, but the range has been a bit limited. As a growing young boy, active in sports, I’ve been especially interested in finding him more healthy snacks and lunches that provide a good amount of protein. Of course, more fruits and veggies are always a good thing too!
Most summer vacation weeks, I get to hang with B on Mondays. A great time for experiments with food! I let him work with me to come up with the ingredients for things we are making, and he definitely gets equal credit for the smoothie recipe.
This is so easy. Just get the ingredients together in a blender or food processor, and give it a whir!
You could easily vary the ingredients, adding different fruits that you and your family enjoy. But as you can see from the reaction of our lad, you ought to give this particular combo a try!
